President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will inaugurate the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering, and Training Centre in Utako, Abuja, on Friday, May 31, 2024.

A statement from the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) noted that this event marks a significant step in Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable energy solutions and cleaner environmental practices.

The new NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Centre is a collaboration between NASENI and Portland Gas Limited.

This state-of-the-art facility focuses on converting vehicles from fossil fuels to CNG, which is a cleaner and more cost-effective fuel alternative. Equipped with the latest technology, the centre is staffed by highly trained professionals to ensure safe and efficient conversions. It also aims to build local expertise in CNG technology.

The centre will offer extensive training programs for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders. These programs are designed to promote the use of CNG and support the growth of green energy solutions across Nigeria.

Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, stated that this centre is a transformative milestone for Nigeria’s energy sector.

Halilu emphasized that NASENI is dedicated to reducing the nation’s carbon footprint and providing affordable, eco-friendly fuel alternatives. “This initiative will significantly lower vehicular emissions, leading to cleaner air and a healthier environment. It will also provide economic benefits by reducing fuel costs for consumers and creating new job opportunities in the green energy sector,” he stated.

He invited all stakeholders, including vehicle owners and industry professionals, to utilize the services and training opportunities at the new centre. “Together, we can drive a greener, more sustainable future for Nigeria,” Halilu added.

NASENI has been proactive in automotive reverse engineering, successfully assembling CNG kits locally. The comprehensive CNG sequential kit includes essential components such as a pressure regulator, petrol solenoid valve, on-off valve, refueling connector, control module, CNG level indicator, gas air mixer, CNG cylinder with valve, and various other parts necessary for a seamless conversion.

The launch of this centre aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing sustainable energy alternatives and the creation of a clean energy ecosystem. The NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Centre stands as a testament to NASENI’s commitment to innovation and the development of local technological and manufacturing capabilities.
