The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has officially thrown open its doors to the public, inviting brilliant tech innovators and business owners to apply for the fourth edition of its innovation reward programme, known as the NSIA Prize for Innovation (NPI 4.0).

This year, the agency is bringing a much bigger package to the table. The total prize money has been increased to $275,000. Out of this total amount, the NSIA is providing $220,000, while its partners, Cascador and Wema Bank, are contributing $45,000 and $10,000 respectively.

The organizers explained that this combined wealth is meant to show how deeply committed they are to empowering local business minds and helping them grow companies that can change lives.

To help the participants succeed, the agency recently introduced a fully sponsored training package for business owners under the banner, ‘Building for Impact’. This main initiative of the NSIA aims to look for businesses with great potential, giving them the cash, business training, expert guidance, and proper connections they need to solve Nigeria’s toughest problems, create jobs, and boost the economy across Africa.

While speaking on the development in Abuja, the Spokesperson for the NSIA, Joyce Onyegbula, stated that the initiative has grown into a major pillar for business growth and support in the country.

“Since inception, the NSIA Prize for Innovation has become one of Nigeria’s leading platforms for entrepreneurship development, innovation and ecosystem support,” Onyegbula said.

She stated that the initiative has received over 20,000 applications from various young companies across all the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria since it started. These companies operate in vital areas like financial technology, agricultural technology, health, education, and transport.

“The success of the programme reflects the growing strength of Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and the determination of Nigerian innovators to build solutions that improve lives, create jobs, strengthen industries, and contribute to national development,” Onyegbula added.

For this fourth edition, Onyegbula explained that the focus will narrow down on businesses working in Manufacturing, Climate and Food Security, and Healthcare. The goal is to back business founders who can improve local production, better the health of citizens, fix food supply systems, and protect the environment against climate change.

Onyegbula further noted that NPI 4.0 is a complete ladder for growth. This year, the stakes are even higher as winners get a chance to secure up to $1.5 million in heavy business expansion funding through a platform called Pula Xcelerator.

“A major highlight of this year’s programme is the opportunity for winners to secure up to $1.5 million in funding through Pula Xcelerator, providing access to the growth capital required to accelerate expansion, strengthen operations, and scale impact,” she disclosed.

Beyond the dollar prizes and the expansion funds, the winners will also get a ticket to the grand finale of Wema Bank’s Hackaholics competition, where they will wrestle for a piece of another N100 million in free grants.

Additionally, the lucky entrepreneurs will receive a fully paid business management course at the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) in Lagos to learn top-tier leadership, financial tracking, and how to attract big investors.

Sharing his thoughts on the project, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the NSIA, Aminu Umar-Sadiq, stated that Nigerian youth are already creating tools that can change society for the better.

“Across Nigeria, entrepreneurs are building solutions with the potential to transform industries, improve livelihoods, and address some of our most pressing development challenges,” Umar-Sadiq said.

He stated that the new upgrades in NPI 4.0 show that the agency is ready to stand by business minds who want to rewrite the story of Nigeria’s economy. He urged the next generation of creators in the health, manufacturing, and food sectors to jump on this rare chance to speed up their progress.

“Entrepreneurs developing innovative technologies, products, and solutions that address critical challenges in these sectors are encouraged to apply and become part of a growing community of innovators shaping the future of Nigeria,” Umar-Sadiq stated.

He maintained that the event is far more than a simple contest, describing it as a massive engine for business transformation that blends cash rewards, top-class schooling, expert mentorship, and open paths to global investors.

Throwing its weight behind the project, the partner organization, Cascador, stated that modern tech tools are vital for making a true difference in communities.

The Executive Director of Cascador, Trish Thomas, said, “As part of our commitment to supporting the growth of high-potential Nigerian ventures, we are awarding $45,000 in non-dilutive prize funding through ‘The Cascador Prize for Impact’.”

Thomas added that his organization is very happy to team up with the NSIA again in 2026 to make sure ground-breaking ideas that help ordinary people are heavily rewarded.
