NMFB: ABP Disbursements Total N51b
By Patience Ikpeme
NIRSAL Microfinance Bank (NMFB) has clarified that its total disbursements under the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) interventions amount to N51 billion.
This statement from the bank on Thursday aims to correct recent media reports that suggested a significantly higher figure of N215 billion.
According to the bank, “The correct figure, as verified by the bank’s records and which the Bank has shared during public sessions, is N51 billion—a significant discrepancy that demands public correction.”
The bank noted that “Recent media coverage erroneously inflated NMFB’s disbursement totals, potentially causing confusion among stakeholders. For the avoidance of doubt, our verified Anchors Borrowers Programme (ABP) intervention loan disbursements stand at N51 billion, not N215 billion. We urge the public and press to disregard the inaccurate reports.”
NMFB also stated the importance of accuracy in financial reporting, appealing to journalists to confirm figures directly with the bank before publication.
The statement further addressed ongoing confusion between NIRSAL Microfinance Bank and NIRSAL Plc., stressing that they are “distinct entities with separate operations.” NIRSAL Plc. is a non-bank financial institution focused on de-risking agricultural lending, while NMFB is a CBN-licensed financial institution responsible for administering specialized banking services, including intervention funds.
The bank stated that this clarification seeks to preserve transparency and trust in NMFB’s role in managing Nigeria’s financial intervention programmes.
