An IT firm Sure Switch Technology Ltd has launched a driver/passenger safety app called ‘Sure Driver App’, to help curb road insecurities in Abuja.

This is to help in the fight against armed robberies and ‘one chance kidnapping’ on Abuja highways.

Mr Ugba gave reasons why this app is important stating that “as we all know, road transport is the backbone of commerce, tourism, and day-to-day activities. Yet, the prevalence of criminal activities targeting travelers and commuters creates an atmosphere of fear and insecurity”.

He further noted that “the time has come for us to adopt innovative strategies that leverage the power of IT Technology to not only protect road users but also to deter criminal activities before they occur.”

Mr Ugba also noted that asides protecting drivers, his company will ensure to provide CNG equipments for its registered drivers.

He also pointed out that this is only starting with Abuja, but with the right partnership with law enforcement agencies, they will spread to other parts of the country.

The app operates by registering drivers and assigning QR codes to their vehicles. Passengers can scan the QR code to verify the driver’s details. If the driver is not registered, passengers are alerted to the potential risk.

“By leveraging real-time crime detection, AI-powered emergency response systems, and safety alerts for drivers and passengers, we can create a safer environment” he said.

He added that “Collaboration among citizens, law enforcement, and technology is essential for effective crime prevention. Embracing these innovations will not only protect road users but also respect individual rights. Together, we can usher in a new era of road safety.
