Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has called for a total “reset” of the way the world’s economy works.

He made this call on Sunday during a high-level meeting in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at the Al Ula Conference for Emerging Market Economies, the Minister joined other finance leaders to discuss how the world handles trade, money, and big economic policies.

Mr. Edun argued that the current global system needs to change because the world economy is going through a massive transformation.

The Minister pushed for countries like Nigeria and other “emerging markets” to have a louder voice in how these new global rules are written. He also pointed out that Gulf nations are becoming very important in deciding where trade and big investments go, which is something the rest of the world must take seriously.

According to a post on the Ministry’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Mr. Edun wants a world where the financial system is fairer for everyone.

“Nigeria remains committed to building stronger partnerships that advance a more equitable global financial architecture,” the Minister said during his engagement with other world finance leaders.

By asking for this “reset,” Nigeria is seeking a system that doesn’t just favor the richest nations but also supports the growth and stability of developing countries.

The meeting served as a chance for Nigeria to strengthen its ties with powerful international partners to help move the nation’s economy forward.
