Dangote Cement Set to Make Africa Self-Sufficient by 2030

Dangote Cement Plc has made it clear that it wants Africa to stop buying cement from abroad. The company says it is working hard to make sure the continent can produce all the cement it needs to build its own roads, bridges, and houses without depending on other parts of the world.
During a meeting about the company’s growth, the Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, Mr. Arvind Pathak, said the company is putting more money into its factories across Africa.
This move is to make sure there is enough cement everywhere and to support the big building projects happening on the continent.
Mr. Pathak explained that the goal is to reach a production capacity of 90 million metric tonnes every year across Africa by the year 2030. He pointed out that this plan has already worked very well in Nigeria.
“Our vision is clear — to ensure Africa produces enough cement to meet its own needs. Through continuous expansion, operational excellence, and a strong distribution network, we are positioning Dangote Cement to power growth across the continent. We are not just building a business; we are building Africa’s future,” Mr. Pathak said.
He also mentioned that Nigeria used to buy cement from other countries, but that has changed. He said that through hard work, the company has stopped Nigeria from depending on imported cement and has turned the country into a place that now sells cement to many neighboring nations.
The founder and President of the group, Aliko Dangote, also spoke about the company’s long-term plan. He said that being able to produce everything locally is a duty the company owes to the continent. He believes that Africa has everything it needs to succeed on its own.
“Africa has no reason to depend on cement imports. We have the raw materials, the talent, and the determination. Our goal at Dangote Cement is to unlock Africa’s potential by ensuring that every nation on this continent can access affordable, high-quality cement produced within Africa. This is how we build prosperity, job opportunities, and sustainable development,” Aliko Dangote said.
Mr. Dangote added that the company is very passionate about making Africa more competitive and helping industries grow. Currently, the company has factories and distribution centers in many African countries. They are also working on upgrading their plants and using new technology that saves energy and protects the environment.
As more cities across Africa begin to build new highways and housing estates, the need for cement is going up. Dangote Cement hopes that by producing more locally, it will help keep prices stable and make it easier for people to get the materials they need for construction in the coming years.
