The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, has been conferred with the prestigious title of Honorary Ambassador of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO).

The conferment took place at the RMAFC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday when a delegation from the university, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, presented the award to Dr. Shehu.

In his address, Professor Ezemonye explained that the university established the position of Honorary Ambassador to recognize individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to educational excellence and distinguished themselves in service to the nation. He highlighted Dr. Shehu’s exemplary profile as a consummate technocrat and a distinguished alumnus as key factors in this recognition.

“As Honorary Ambassador of IUO, you will be expected, amongst other things, to promote and project the image and standing of the University while advancing its interest,” Professor Ezemonye stated.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Shehu commended the university’s founding fathers and acknowledged the challenges faced by higher education institutions in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of quality education and stressed that investing in education is crucial for national development.

“The most important thing that we can do for the society is to impact knowledge. If we had sustained what our forefathers started many years ago, probably all the issues that are being discussed in Nigeria today wouldn’t have come up,” Dr. Shehu stated.

He commended Igbinedion University for maintaining high educational standards despite the challenges and pledged his full support in promoting the university’s image and advancing its interests.

The delegation, which included Professor Friday Beni Bakari, Registrar/Secretary of Council of the University, and other senior officials, described Dr. Shehu as a humble, amiable, and detribalized person.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the letter of appointment as Honorary Ambassador of the university to Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu.

This recognition underscores Dr. Shehu’s significant contributions to national development and his commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.
