PenCom Launches PenCare Pilot: Free Healthcare for Eligible CPS Retirees
By Patience Ikpeme
The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has opened registration for PenCare, a pilot corporate social responsibility healthcare initiative offering free medical coverage to selected retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The programme targets up to 30,000 beneficiaries on a first-come, first-served basis and aims to reduce retirees’ out-of-pocket medical expenses while safeguarding their dignity and well-being.
Eligibility is limited to retirees aged 60 and above who receive monthly pensions of not more than ₦70,000 from a Pension Fund Administrator (PFA). Interested retirees can register immediately by scanning the barcode published in newspapers, visiting www.pencom.gov.ng, or accessing any participating PFA’s website.
PenCom describes PenCare as a pilot phase designed to test delivery and scalability before broader rollout. By focusing on lower-income pensioners, the commission intends to address gaps in access to affordable healthcare for a vulnerable segment of the retired population.
PenCare also reinforces PenCom’s public-facing role in pensioner welfare beyond fund administration.
For media and stakeholders, the commission asked for support in disseminating registration information widely to ensure eligible retirees can access the benefit.
