Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, Nigeria’s Accountant General of the Federation, has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the African Association of Accountants General (AAAG).
The election took place during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra, Ghana, an event attended by Accountants General from various AAAG member nations.
A statement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), signed by Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, noted that Nigeria’s ascension to this significant position reflects the trust and respect Mr. Ogunjimi and the nation’s commitment to financial transparency hold among their African counterparts.
As Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Ogunjimi is expected to play a crucial part in advancing the AAAG’s mission. His role will involve supporting efforts to promote innovative Public Financial Management (PFM) systems, strengthen public sector accounting practices, and encourage cooperation among member countries.

Currently representing 22 member countries, the Association’s core purpose is to foster leadership and excellence in Public Financial Management through sound accounting practices and transparent reporting systems.
The AAAG was established in July 2023 under the guidance of the African Union Commission. Its aim is to bring a continental perspective to PFM reforms in Africa, working to improve accountability, enhance transparency, and strengthen the effective management of public finances across the continent.
