The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the seventh phase of its constituency and executive project tracking exercise in Imo State.
According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the exercise began in Owerri on Friday, focusing on Zonal Intervention Projects captured in the 2023 fiscal year.
The ICPC is conducting the initiative in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, with the aim of assessing the quality of work done and holding contractors accountable for project delivery.
Speaking to journalists, ICPC Team Lead, Mr. Ben Anikwe, explained that the tracking exercise aligns with a mandate issued by the Commission on Monday, November 18, 2024, targeting 22 states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
“This initiative aims to ensure that funds budgeted and allocated for projects are effectively utilised while promoting adherence to due process in the execution of government projects,” he stated.
Anikwe further emphasized the Commission’s commitment to improving value for money and fostering a culture of compliance with project specifications.
The tracking exercise in Imo State covered local government areas such as Nkwerre, Njaba, Isu, Ideato North, and Ideato South in Imo West Senatorial District. Projects in Owerri West, Mbaitoli, and other council areas within Imo East Senatorial District were also evaluated.
The ICPC’s Project Tracking Initiative, launched in 2019, is designed to monitor the utilisation of funds allocated to key sectors including education, health, agriculture, water resources, and power, ensuring transparency and accountability in the execution of government projects.
This latest phase underscores the Commission’s resolve to promote good governance and ensure that public resources are judiciously expended for the benefit of the people.
