The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to settling outstanding payments owed to genuine contractors engaged by Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

This assurance was made public by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The government is taking concrete steps to ensure that contractors who have executed their contracts satisfactorily receive due compensation.

According to the OAGF, the Federal Government has established strict rules governing the award and execution of contracts. “No payment would be made for contracts awarded without due process or contracts not executed according to specification,” the statement emphasized. This policy underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public spending.

Ogunjimi further explained that the government maintains detailed records of contracts executed by MDAs and is meticulous in verifying these before making payments. “The Federal Government has records of contracts executed by MDAs and is meticulous in the payment for these contracts to guarantee value for money spent,” the statement said. This careful approach ensures that public funds are used efficiently and contractors are fairly compensated for work completed to specification.

In addition to contractor payments, the OAGF addressed the ongoing implementation of the N35,000 minimum wage award. The government has already commenced payment of the five months’ outstanding arrears as of May 2025. “The payment of the wage award will continue every month until the arrears is exhausted,” the statement confirmed, providing reassurance to workers awaiting full payment.

The OAGF also announced the schedule for the next wage payment. “The next payment of the N35,000 wage award will be done in June 2025 after payment of the June 2025 salary,” the statement revealed. This structured payment plan reflects the government’s dedication to fulfilling its wage obligations in a timely manner.

Overall, the Federal Government’s proactive stance on clearing outstanding contractor payments and wage arrears highlights its commitment to financial discipline and social responsibility. By ensuring that contracts are properly executed and workers are paid fairly, the government aims to foster trust and promote economic stability across the nation.
