Dangote Refinery Recalls Redeployed Engineers in Policy Shift
By Patience Ikpeme
The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the formal recall of engineers who were previously moved to various business units following internal disciplinary proceedings. This decision marks a conditional pardon for the personnel involved in past operational disruptions.
The refinery management made the announcement through an internal communication, noting that the choice to reintegrate the staff followed a thorough review of the incidents and persistent appeals from prminent stakeholders and the affected engineers themselves. While the company maintained that the initial redeployments were necessary to protect its operational integrity, it stated that it is now prepared to offer the staff a fresh start within the petroleum facility.
According to a directive signed by the Group Vice President, Oil & Gas, Devakumar Edwin, the company will host a formal meeting with all affected personnel before they are reassigned to their primary duties at the refinery. Significantly, this recall extends to engineers who had previously declined the initial redeployment offers made by the company in late 2025.
The leadership of the conglomerate noted that this step is rooted in a balance between corporate fairness and the belief in professional redemption. However, the company made it clear that the core values of the organization must be maintained without exception.
“This decision was not an easy one. It reflects not only our belief in second chances but also serves as a clear reminder that loyalty, professionalism and adherence to organisational standards are non‑negotiable,” the company stated in the memo. “Effective immediately, all engineers previously redeployed to other business units, will be invited for a meeting and, subsequently, will be provided with an opportunity to render their services at our Petroleum Refinery. This would include those who did not avail the opportunity provided earlier for redeployment.”
Despite the conciliatory tone of the recall, the refinery issued a stern caution regarding future conduct. The management made it known that any further instances of misconduct would result in immediate and final sanctions, maintaining a strict policy against any actions that could jeopardize the refinery’s complex operations.
The Dangote Group had shifted several engineers to other subsidiaries in October 2025 as part of a broader strategy to stabilize refinery operations during a period of internal friction. With this new directive, the company expressed its desire for the returning staff to bring a fresh sense of commitment to their roles as the refinery continues to scale its production capacity.
“We welcome our colleagues back, with the expectation of renewed dedication, and we look forward to working together to strengthen our operations and deliver excellence in the oil and gas sector,” the management concluded.
This development is seen by industry observers as a strategic move to retain experienced home-grown talent as the refinery cements its status as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy sector. Returning engineers are expected to resume their posts immediately following the scheduled briefing sessions with the executive leadership.
