Dangote Cement Launches Malaria Intervention Programme in Edo State

Dangote Cement Plc has initiated a malaria intervention programme for its host communities in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The programme aims to address the prevalence of malaria and contribute to Nigeria’s progress on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 of the United Nations, focusing on good health and well-being.
Dr. Igazeuma Okoroba, Group Head of Sustainability at Dangote Cement Plc, emphasized the company’s commitment to the well-being of host community members. He highlighted the disparities in access to healthcare services and underscored Dangote Cement’s objective of bridging this gap by providing vital healthcare services to communities.
Dr. Okoroba stressed the importance of healthy populations for robust economies, aligning with global efforts to combat infectious diseases like malaria. He reiterated Dangote Cement’s dedication to accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world.
The malaria intervention programme, launched in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Health and partners, aims to engage communities, provide healthcare services at the grassroots level, and address factors contributing to malaria risk. The programme demonstrates Dangote Cement’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to improving the health outcomes of its host communities.
Engr. Sunday Adondua, Coordinator Sustainability at Dangote Cement Plc, Okpella, highlighted the programme’s objective of reducing malaria incidence in host communities. He emphasized the importance of active participation from community members and urged them to utilize the provided drugs and mosquito nets effectively to combat malaria effectively.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Comrade Victor Ojeifo, Director of Community Health Service, praised Dangote Cement for its medical outreach efforts, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives for vulnerable populations.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude for the free malaria treatment and prevention measures provided by Dangote Cement. Mrs. Adiza Aliu, Mrs. Adiza Sedu, Mrs. Eunice Solomon, and Pastor Joshua all lauded Dangote Cement for alleviating their healthcare burden and providing essential medications and mosquito nets free of charge.
The programme’s impact extends beyond immediate treatment, empowering community members to take proactive steps towards better health outcomes. With access to free medical services and preventative measures, individuals can safeguard themselves and their families against malaria, contributing to improved overall well-being.
