Dangote Cement Plc has donated pick-up vans to the traffic management agencies in Lagos and Ogun States, pledging continued support for public safety, infrastructure development, and improved traffic flow.

At the handover ceremony held at the Dangote Group’s project office in Ikeja, the company’s Head of Social Performance, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, said the donation was aimed at strengthening the capacities of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

“As a leading player in our nation’s industrial landscape, Dangote Cement Plc understands that our operations go beyond business. We are part of the communities we serve, and we recognize the critical role that efficient traffic management plays in ensuring the safety of lives, the smooth flow of goods, and the overall well-being of our cities,” Olayiwola said.

He explained that the vehicles would help the agencies improve rapid response to traffic incidents, expand patrol coverage along critical routes, and boost enforcement of traffic regulations. According to him, the gesture represents more than a corporate donation.

“This is a partnership built on shared values of safety, efficiency, and service to the Nigerian people,” he stated. “The donation is a testament to our belief in shared responsibility—where corporate entities like ours actively support the institutions that keep our society functioning.”

Olayiwola added that the company would continue to support initiatives that promote traffic safety, driver education, and infrastructure development nationwide.

Receiving the vehicles, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Aderonke Tokunbo-Peters, who led the TRACE team, described the donation as a motivating gesture that reinforced collaboration for safer roads.

“This donation is not just a gift of vehicles; it is a powerful statement of corporate responsibility, community partnership, and shared vision for public safety and service excellence,” Tokunbo-Peters said.

She noted that the vehicles would improve TRACE’s operational efficiency. “These vehicles will enhance our mobility, improve our response times, and strengthen our presence across key traffic corridors,” she added, while expressing gratitude on behalf of the Ogun State government.

On his part, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the donation reflected the benefits of strong public-private sector collaboration.

“It reflects a deep understanding that traffic management is not just a government responsibility — it is a shared civic duty that affects every commuter, every business, and every family,” he said.

Bakare-Oki assured that the agency would put the vehicles to effective use, pledging diligence in their deployment and maintenance. “We reaffirm our commitment to using it judiciously, maintaining it diligently, and deploying it strategically to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents, and ensure the safety of all road users,” he stated.

He commended LASTMA officers for their dedication and said the new resources would help enhance their impact. “With the new resources, their work will be even more impactful. To Dangote Cement, we say thank you — not just for the vehicles, but for believing in our mission,” he added.

Bakare-Oki also expressed optimism that the partnership between the state and the private sector would deepen, opening opportunities for more collaboration to address the challenges of urban mobility.
