APRA Urges Kenyan Government to Prioritize Citizens Amid Ongoing Protests
By Patience Ikpeme
In the wake of ongoing protests in Kenya, the Executive Council and Members of the African Public Relations Association (APRA) have called on the Kenyan government to prioritize the well-being of its citizens.
The call comes as tensions remain high across the country following widespread demonstrations.
Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, Secretary-General of APRA, emphasized the need for the Kenyan authorities to engage in meaningful dialogue with various stakeholders. “We urge the Kenyan authorities, in a show of conversational capacity as already indicated by the Presidency, to undertake stakeholder consultations with empathy and an openness to reconciliation,” Dr. Ibietan stated.
He noted the importance of addressing the concerns of all parties involved to foster a peaceful resolution.
APRA extended its condolences to the people of Kenya in light of the recent crisis. “We condole with all Kenyans in general over the recent crisis that happened in the Republic of Kenya,” Dr. Ibietan said. The association expressed solidarity with its colleagues in the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) during these challenging times.
The statement also extended heartfelt sympathies to the families affected by the violence. “We commiserate with the families of those who died and wish a speedy recovery to those injured during the protests. We fervently pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased,” Dr. Ibietan added.
The ongoing protests, sparked by a contentious finance bill, have led to significant unrest in multiple regions of Kenya. APRA’s call for dialogue and reconciliation aims to encourage a peaceful resolution and promote unity within the country.
