The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced a one-month extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, moving the deadline from March 31 to April 30, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Corporate Communications, Mustapha Sumaila, the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Mr. Michael Ango, explained that while the statutory deadline remains March 31 each year, this grace period is designed to give taxpayers more time to submit accurate records. He noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to improve overall tax compliance within the nation’s capital.

Mr. Ango stated that individuals should prioritize the timely submission of their records, describing voluntary compliance as a routine civic responsibility and a vital contribution to national development. He also pointed out that electronic filing through the dedicated FCT-IRS tax portal remains the only approved method for submission as the Service continues to modernize its digital administration systems.

The FCT-IRS boss characterized the online platform as secure, efficient, and accessible. However, he advised taxpayers to be meticulous when onboarding, particularly regarding their National Identification Number (NIN), phone numbers, and residential addresses, to prevent unnecessary processing delays.

“Should anyone need further enquiries or assistance, such person may visit any FCT-IRS office or contact us via our email,” the Chairman said, adding that the Service has also made several dedicated phone lines available for real-time support.

The revenue agency encouraged all residents and taxpayers within the Federal Capital Territory to take advantage of the extended window to fulfill their obligations through the official portal at www.taxporta.fctirs.gov.ng.
