The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project, distributing one million 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable Nigerians across the country. The project, valued at N16 billion, was launched on Thursday in Kano.
Mr. Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, said the initiative aligns with the core values of his company and foundation, aiming to support the poor and most vulnerable in all 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.
“This annual initiative, which embodies compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility, is part of our response to the current economic challenges facing our nation. It reflects our commitment to supporting our communities in line with our core values,” said Dangote, represented by his daughter Marya Aliko Dangote.
He stated that the foundation began the distribution in Kano State and will proceed to other states, ensuring the food reaches those who need it most in every local government area.
Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest person, said food is a basic human necessity, and the foundation has adopted the practice of a nationwide food distribution program. “We are collaborating with state governments to ensure that the food reaches the most vulnerable individuals in each state,” he added.
He noted that the foundation focuses on improving living conditions through projects addressing hunger, water supply, health, education, and economic empowerment. He urged other industrialists and firms to join in combating hunger through similar initiatives.
“I commend the government at all levels for efforts in addressing the food crisis. I am certain that with time, we shall overcome these challenges, therefore let us support the government to achieve its target of a better life for Nigerians,” he said.
Governor Abba K. Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his Deputy Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gworzo, flagged off the project and said the intervention reflects Dangote’s commitment to addressing poverty and hunger. He announced that 120,000 bags of 10kg rice will be distributed across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
He praised Dangote’s humanitarian efforts, noting a similar event last year. To ensure transparency, the state government has formed a committee comprising relevant ministries, CSOs, religious leaders, departments, agencies, local authorities, the Hisbah Board, and security agencies.
Zouera Youssoufou, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, said the project is a way of giving back and supporting governments in fighting poverty and hunger. She said Dangote is passionate about philanthropy and committed to reducing hunger in Nigeria.
“We are going to other states to distribute the products, but we’ve just flagged off in Kano,” she said.
Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, thanked the foundation and urged others to emulate Dangote. He said the Hisbah Board will ensure the products reach the targeted beneficiaries.
Ibrahim Ahmed, representing the poor and vulnerable, thanked Dangote and prayed for his business success.
