The Federal Government has instructed the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) to submit the NES#29 Green Book within three months after the summit.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Engr. Nebeolisa Anako, issued this order during the inauguration of the Joint Planning Committee (JPC) for the 29th Nigeria Economic Summit (NES#29) in Abuja.
The Green Book is a compilation of discussions, key points, and recommendations from the annual Nigerian Economic Summit, which is submitted to the government to aid in policy formulation and sound economic decision-making.
The directive indicates that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration will take the decisions and recommendations of the NES#29 Green Book seriously.
According to Engr. Nebeolisa Anako, copies of the Green Book published after the 2022 Nigeria Economic Summit NES#28 have already been received by the Ministry and distributed to various government departments and agencies, as well as other stakeholders, to facilitate the implementation of the summit’s recommendations.
The Annual Summit serves as a vital platform for dialogue among policymakers, corporate leaders, the private sector, civil society organizations, and development partners.
The outcomes of these summits have consistently played a significant role in shaping government policies and have contributed to the establishment of a culture of development planning in the country.
The outgoing CEO of NESG, Mr. Laoye Jaiyeola, highlighted the economic challenges faced by Nigeria, emphasizing the need for concerted efforts and strategic planning to effectively utilize the country’s abundant natural resources, maximize its competitive advantages, and create opportunities for sustainable economic development.
He called for a departure from business-as-usual in economic governance and expressed the importance of addressing the potential adverse effects of policy decisions on citizens.
The NESG reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the government to ensure policies are implemented with minimal negative consequences for the populace, focusing on balancing economic reforms and safeguarding the well-being of citizens.
The organization expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their dedication to sustaining the collaboration that fosters meaningful dialogues on the Nigerian Economic Summit platform.
The 29th edition of the Nigeria Economic Summit (NES#29) is scheduled to take place on October 23-24 in Abuja.
