By Patience Ikpeme
The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his directive to minimize the official convoys of ministers and executives, aiming to lower governance costs.
The Commission’s Chairman Dr. Muhammad Shehu Bello stated that this initiative would alleviate the financial burden impacting infrastructure and social services, contributing to unemployment and insecurity.
Dr. Bello reiterated RMAFC’s long-standing insistence on reduced governance expenses and called for state governments to adopt similar measures.
He noted that Nigeria’s high governance costs stem from bureaucratic inefficiencies and corruption, urging immediate implementation of the Orosanye report and a reduction in political appointees to ensure prudent fiscal management.
To effectively address the excessive cost of governance in Nigeria, the Commission recommends the immediate implementation of the Orosanye report, as previously intended by the administration.
Additionally, it called for a reduction in the number of political appointees, in line with the recommendations from the RMAFC’s remuneration package for Political and Public Office Holders.
The commission also syressed the need for prudent financial management at all levels of government.
