The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has called for the adoption of innovative and sustainable revenue generation strategies, emphasizing the critical need to address the escalating demands on public services across all levels of government.

This appeal was made by the Chairman of RMAFC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, during the opening ceremony of a two-day training program titled “Optimizing Revenue Generation, Budgeting Process, and Good Governance,” held on Wednesday.

In a press release issued by Maryam Umar Yusuf, Head of Information and Public Relations Unit at RMAFC, Dr. Shehu reiterated the Commission’s constitutional mandate to provide advisory support to the three tiers of government on matters concerning fiscal efficiency and revenue enhancement.

He asserted that bolstering revenue generation is no longer a matter of choice, but an imperative for ensuring national economic stability and fostering sustainable development.

“Strengthening revenue generation was no longer an option but a necessity for economic stability and sustainable development,” Dr. Shehu emphasized during his address.

The training programme, scheduled to run from Wednesday, February 26th, to Thursday, February 27th, 2025, is meticulously designed to equip government officials and key stakeholders with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to enhance revenue mobilization, streamline budgeting processes, and fortify fiscal management practices.

Dr. Shehu underscored the pivotal role of strategic partnerships, optimal pricing strategies, and efficient fiscal management in driving revenue generation. He highlighted that the training program would serve as a vital platform for participants to engage with seasoned experts and delve into best practices in revenue optimization.

“We must move beyond traditional revenue sources and explore new frontiers to boost fiscal sustainability,” Dr. Shehu stated, urging participants to embrace innovative approaches.

The intended outcomes of the training program are comprehensive. Participants are expected to gain a profound understanding of the multifaceted challenges and opportunities associated with revenue generation.

They will acquire practical skills in revenue mobilization and management, enabling them to implement effective strategies in their respective domains. Furthermore, the program will facilitate the development of strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing revenue generation, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

Participants will also be equipped to identify innovative solutions to address revenue shortfalls by leveraging their areas of comparative advantage, thereby maximizing their potential contributions to national economic growth.

Dr. Shehu urged all stakeholders to fully capitalize on the training opportunity, emphasizing that achieving fiscal sustainability necessitates proactive measures, robust collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to good governance. He stressed the importance of adopting a holistic approach to revenue management, integrating innovative strategies with sound fiscal practices.

“Achieving fiscal sustainability requires proactive measures, collaboration, and a commitment to good governance,” Dr. Shehu reiterated.
