The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced a crackdown on motorists without valid third-party motor insurance, revealing that only 30% of vehicles in Nigeria are currently insured.

During a visit by the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, to the Force Headquarters, the IGP emphasized the importance of third-party motor insurance and highlighted the legal penalties for driving without it.

Recognizing the critical importance of insurance in protecting lives and property, the IGP announced that the full enforcement of third-party motor insurance will commence on February 1, 2025.
