PenCom, NUP Unite to Secure Pensioners’ Welfare Nationwide by Year-End

The National Pension Commission (PenCom), has reaffirmed the commission’s resolved to enhance retirees’ welfare through strengthened collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP).

 

This was disclosed by the Director General of the Commission Ms. Oloworaran when she led a delegation to the NUP headquarters on Thursday ,in Abuja, where she emphasized the shared mission of protecting pensioners’ interests

 

Ms. Oloworaran praised NUP’s persistent advocacy and significant role on PenCom’s Governing Board, which has supported the successful implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

She reassured the Union that all outstanding pension increases approved by the Federal Government would be paid this year, backed by a N758 billion bond authorized by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

 

NUP President Comrade Godwin Ikechukwu Abumisi described the visit as historic—the first by a PenCom DG to the Union’s headquarters—and commended PenCom’s prioritization of pensioners’ welfare.

 

He urged full implementation of pension increases, a commitment the DG confirmed would be met before year-end.The meeting ended with a tour of the NUP’s ongoing building project at its national headquarters and mutual pledges to deepen their partnership in advancing the dignity and security of retirees across Nigeria.
