The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has clarified that there were no shortfalls in the salaries paid to federal workers in January and February 2025, stating that the amounts received were their actual salaries after various arrears paid in late 2024 had been exhausted.

In a statement signed by Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations, the OAGF explained that from October to December 2024, federal workers received payments that included minimum wage arrears, the 25%/35% salary increase arrears, and wage award arrears. These additional payments temporarily increased workers’ earnings during the last quarter of 2024.

“The salaries that workers received in January and February 2025 were their normal salaries after the various arrears paid from October to December 2024 were exhausted,” the statement read.

The OAGF said it was important to address concerns about alleged shortfalls to prevent unnecessary anxiety among workers. “Some workers assumed they were shortchanged when in reality, what they received in January and February 2025 were their actual salaries,” the statement added.

The Office assured that unless new salary arrears are introduced, the amounts paid in January and February 2025 will remain the standard salary structure until the Federal Government implements a salary review.

Regarding overpayments in December 2024, the OAGF acknowledged that a system error led to excess payments for some workers. The statement noted that deductions to recover the overpayments are ongoing and will continue until the funds are fully recovered.

On the issue of promotion arrears, the OAGF explained that payments are handled by a Standing Committee on Promotion and Salary Arrears under the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF). The committee is responsible for compiling and vetting arrears from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) before forwarding them for payment through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

“IPPIS has fully paid batches 1 to 6 and is awaiting more batches from the Budget Office of the Federation for further payments,” the statement said.

The OAGF assured federal workers of its commitment to efficiently managing IPPIS and advised those with genuine salary complaints to follow the formal channels for resolution.
