The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated N3.7 trillion in revenue during the first half of 2025, exceeding its target for the period by 12.5% and marking a 25% increase compared to the same period last year.
This performance was announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, during the 62nd meeting of the NCS Board in Abuja.
While he described the achievement as commendable, Minister Edun stated the need for more reforms to help the administration meet its ambitious revenue goals.
He also announced that a key part of the government’s plan to modernize trade systems is the National Single Window Initiative, a digital trade platform scheduled for a full rollout in 2026. The initiative is designed to streamline import and export processes, which will reduce delays and costs while boosting competitiveness.
According to the minister, “The National Single Window will give Customs the speed and capacity to process trade more effectively, boosting revenue and positioning Nigeria as a more attractive hub for investment.”
Mr. Edun concluded that these measures align with President Bola Tinubu’s wider strategy of stabilizing inflation and exchange rates while building a transparent, technology-driven trade ecosystem that encourages private investment and drives growth.
During the meeting, the board also approved several governance improvements within the Service, including senior appointments and promotions, to maintain professional standards and strengthen institutional capacity.
