The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) is set to host its inaugural Revenue Assurance Summit, bringing together the Internal Revenue Services of all Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The summit aims to enhance domestic resource mobilization and support subnational governments in providing essential infrastructure.
As the country’s central authority for financial intelligence, the NFIU plays a crucial role in analyzing financial reports and generating actionable insights to safeguard national security. In recent years, the Unit has expanded its support to subnational revenue authorities, partnering with over 20 states and the FCT to bolster their revenue generation capabilities.
The summit’s focus on revenue assurance aligns with the NFIU’s commitment to assisting state governments in meeting their financial obligations and delivering essential services to their constituents. By leveraging financial intelligence, the summit seeks to equip revenue authorities with the tools and knowledge necessary to optimize tax collection and maximize revenue generation.
The NFIU’s Strategic Communications Office emphasized the significance of the summit, stating, “The inaugural event will serve as a platform for the NFIU to engage with state IRS and the Joint Tax Board on the most effective utilization of financial intelligence to boost revenue collection.”
The summit is expected to draw participants from across the country, providing an opportunity for knowledge sharing, best practice exchange, and collaboration among revenue authorities. As Nigeria continues to prioritize economic development and social welfare, the NFIU’s efforts to enhance revenue generation at the subnational level are poised to play a vital role in achieving these objectives.
