The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to include courses on the Deposit Insurance System (DIS) in its educational programmes.

A statement from the NDIC signed by Bashir A. Nuhu, Director, Communication & Public Affairs Department said the Managing Director of the NDIC Mr. Bello Hassan made the call during a visit by ICAN’s governing council members to the Corporation’s management.

Hassan said that including DIS courses in ICAN’s training programmes would improve understanding of DIS, not only within the banking sector but also among professional accountants.

Introducing DIS into ICAN’s curriculum Hassan said would bridge the knowledge gap on the mandate and achievements of DIS, its critical role in protecting depositors, and its contribution to financial system stability.

Mr. Hassan emphasized the importance of public awareness in maximizing the impact and reach of the deposit insurance system throughout the general public and the financial sector.

He congratulated ICAN’s new president, Mr. Innocent Iweka Okwosa, on his assumption of office and praised the Institute’s commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for professional misconduct.

Mr. Okwosa, in turn, commended Mr. Hassan for his leadership and the professionalism he has instilled in the Corporation’s operations.
