NDIC Strengthens Anti-Corruption Measures with Inauguration of ACTU

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has inaugurated the Corporation’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) situated at the headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Bello Hassan, Managing Director/Chief Executive of NDIC, highlighted the Corporation’s zero-tolerance stance towards corruption, emphasizing the importance of ethical values in upholding integrity and accountability.
His remarks, delivered by Mr. Mustapha M. Ibrahim, Executive Director of Operations at NDIC, underscored the significance of the ACTU’s role in enhancing the Corporation’s operational integrity.
“The NDIC ACTU has strengthened the Corporation’s operational system through the implementation of various compliance measures to ensure ethics, integrity, transparency, and accountability in the workplace,” stated Mr. Hassan. He outlined specific measures, including robust internal controls, regular risk assessments, adherence to regulatory guidelines, and comprehensive employee training programs.
The inauguration marked a crucial step in NDIC’s anti-corruption efforts, reflecting its ongoing commitment to fostering public trust and maintaining ethical standards.
Mr. Hassan reiterated management’s support for the ACTU’s activities, recognizing its critical role in promoting integrity and combating corruption.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), commended NDIC’s proactive approach towards combating corruption.
Represented by Mr. Olusegun Adigun, Acting Director of System Study and Review at ICPC, Dr. Aliyu praised NDIC’s dedication in establishing and advancing the ACTU’s activities.
“I applaud the efficiency and diligence of the NDIC ACTU in fulfilling its mandate, resulting in the Corporation retaining the first position for two consecutive years on the annual ICPC Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard,” remarked Dr. Aliyu.
He urged newly appointed ACTU members to build on past achievements and contribute towards sustaining ethical standards within NDIC.
Ten staff members were sworn in as members of the NDIC ACTU during the inauguration. Their responsibilities include sensitizing colleagues against corruption, conducting system studies and corruption risk assessments, monitoring budget implementation, coordinating whistleblowing initiatives, and recognizing outstanding staff members.
The inauguration of the NDIC ACTU reaffirms the Corporation’s commitment to fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability.
By strengthening internal controls and promoting ethical practices, NDIC aims to uphold public trust and bolster its operational effectiveness in the financial sector.
