The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) demonstrated exceptional ingenuity at the 2025 Federal Public Service Innovation Competition, achieving remarkable success by securing both first and third places among a competitive field of 155 entries from diverse Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The competition, designed to cultivate a culture of innovation within the public sector, awarded NDIC’s Carpooling Team the coveted top prize of N5 million. Their winning entry was a digital carpooling application meticulously crafted to alleviate the financial burden of commuting for federal government employees. This inventive ridesharing platform distinguished itself as a pragmatic response to the everyday challenges encountered by civil servants.
Building on this triumph, a second team representing the NDIC also achieved significant recognition, earning third place for their digital platform named Perfoma. This application is engineered to boost staff productivity by streamlining various administrative processes through an integrated online secretariat.
Perfoma effectively manages document creation, facilitates task tracking, and enhances performance monitoring. The platform offers a comprehensive suite of office tools designed to improve efficiency and accountability throughout the public service, earning the team a N3 million award.
The awards ceremony, held in Abuja on April 29, was presided over by Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. In her address, Mrs. Walson-Jack identified innovation as a fundamental pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025.
She commended the participating agencies for their alignment with the government’s vision of establishing a dynamic and efficient public service. Mrs. Walson-Jack also conveyed the significance of such competitions in embedding a culture of innovation within the public sector.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of NDIC, Mr. Bello Hassan, who was represented at the ceremony by Mrs. Gwa Uduwak Zachary, the Director of Strategy Development, lauded the Office of the Head of Civil Service for its commitment to sustaining the tradition of innovation within the public service.
Mr. Hassan celebrated the achievements of the NDIC teams as a clear demonstration of the Corporation’s dedication to excellence, proactive problem-solving, and the effective utilization of technology to address real-world challenges. He conveyed NDIC’s ongoing commitment to integrating innovation into its operational framework and supporting solutions that enhance the delivery of public services.
This dual recognition at the competition underscores NDIC’s strategic focus on digital transformation and the pursuit of cost-effective governance practices. It also reflects the Corporation’s alignment with national priorities aimed at reforming the public service. The NDIC continues to champion innovative approaches that improve service delivery and contribute to Nigeria’s broader development objectives, thereby solidifying its leadership position in the landscape of public sector innovation.
