The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has organized a two-day skills development training in Lagos to enhance the expertise of journalists reporting on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.
The event aimed to equip media professionals with advanced knowledge of industry trends, regulatory milestones, and challenges in Nigeria’s telecoms sector.
The training, which focused on data journalism, visualization, news gathering techniques, and an overview of the Nigerian telecom industry, was designed to deepen journalists’ understanding and improve the quality of reporting in the rapidly evolving telecoms space.
The first day covered key developments and opportunities for consolidating the telecom industry’s growth, while industry experts provided insights on various topics to participants.
In his opening remarks, Reuben Morka, the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, emphasized that the training fulfills a commitment made by Dr. Aminu Maida, the Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, upon his assumption of office in 2023. Morka highlighted the importance of strengthening journalists’ industry knowledge to bridge communication gaps among stakeholders in the telecom ecosystem.
He further noted that the training reflects the NCC’s commitment to transparency and openness regarding its activities in the industry. “This event offers media stakeholders an opportunity to gain updated skills, ensuring they remain informed partners in our efforts to communicate industry developments and expectations,” Morka said.
The event also included interactive question-and-answer sessions, allowing participants to engage directly with industry experts and NCC representatives, reinforcing the collaborative relationship between the Commission and media professionals in promoting awareness of telecom sector advancements.
