The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive to all its licensees to ensure the timely update of their contact information in accordance with the Licensing Regulations 2019.

This move, according to the Commission, is essential for effective regulatory oversight and seamless communication with licensees.

In a statement released by its Director of Public Affairs, the NCC stated that licensees must update any changes to their contact details within seven days of occurrence.

The updates are to be made via the NCC’s eServices platform at https://eservices.ncc.gov.ng and must be completed no later than January 9, 2025.

The Commission outlined the specific categories of information that need to be updated. They include: Principal place of business, including the postcode, geographic coordinates, and identifiable landmarks; a separate address if different from the physical location like a mailing address; active and current email contacts for effective communication; reachable contact numbers to ensure uninterrupted communication and names and details of relevant personnel responsible for regulatory and operational matters.

The NCC warned that failure to provide accurate and locatable physical address details or other required updates will attract sanctions. While the specific penalties were not detailed in the statement, industry observers believe non-compliance could result in fines, suspension, or revocation of licenses, depending on the severity of the breach.

The Commission stressed that up-to-date contact information is crucial for regulatory purposes, enabling it to respond promptly to industry developments, enforce compliance, and maintain effective engagement with licensees.

The directive aligns with the NCC’s broader strategy to improve the quality of its regulatory framework. By mandating accurate and reliable contact details, the Commission aims to enhance oversight, ensure the integrity of its database, and strengthen the telecommunications ecosystem.

The NCC has also emphasized the importance of the eServices platform as a secure and efficient channel for licensees to fulfill their regulatory obligations. Licensees have been encouraged to familiarize themselves with the platform to ensure timely compliance.

This directive underscores the NCC’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. Licensees are urged to prioritize compliance to avoid disruptions in their operations.

As the January 9, 2025, deadline approaches, the NCC has advised all stakeholders to act promptly to meet the requirements. This proactive measure is expected to bolster the Commission’s ability to address industry challenges and foster sustainable growth in the sector.
