NASENI to Lead Innovation and Technology Transfer—Halilu
By Patience Ikpeme
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming NASENI into Nigeria’s leading innovation and technology transfer agency.
Halilu, who celebrated one year in office on Friday, emphasized the achievements made under his leadership and outlined the agency’s plans for the future.
Reflecting on his first year, Halilu highlighted his fulfillment of promises made when he assumed office in 2023, particularly his pledge to transition NASENI’s products from the shelves to the marketplace. “One year after, it is a case of promise made and kept,” he stated, adding that the agency’s technological profile has seen a significant boost in market readiness.
“I made promises of increased activities and market-ready technology for NASENI. Today, the products are here for all to see. This is just one year for me, and it’s another opportunity to say we are going to do more. We will continue to build a better NASENI that focuses on the socio-economic development of Nigeria and the fulfillment of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Halilu affirmed.
Among the key milestones achieved during his tenure is the introduction of 36 market-ready products. Although these products are currently available in the corporate market, Halilu revealed that plans are underway to open a retail showroom, allowing individuals to purchase NASENI products directly. “We are in the process of setting that up soon,” he noted.
Halilu attributed NASENI’s success over the past year to collaborations with strategic partners and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), which have resulted in locally produced, market-ready innovations. “We collaborate, we do technology transfer, we domesticate, and we commercialize together,” he explained.
The products developed by NASENI under Halilu’s leadership include cutting-edge solutions such as solar irrigation pumps, electric vehicles (EVs), Android smartphones, solar home systems, smart prepaid meters, power stoves, and power storage systems. Other innovations include car batteries, laptops, CCTV systems, solar street lamps, electric tricycles, and mobile science kits, among others.
As Halilu looks ahead to his second year, he reiterated his commitment to enhancing NASENI’s role in advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic development through innovation and technology.
