The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has underscored the importance of professional proficiency and technical expertise in procurement management to achieve its mandate and goals.
The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, stated this during the opening ceremony of a three-day in-house training for procurement officers and other staff from NASENI system-wide.
The training aims to equip officers with the necessary skills to manage NASENI’s procurement processes effectively and in compliance with the Public Procurement Act 2007.
Halilu emphasized the agency’s commitment to excellence and its aspiration to be the best in everything it does. He stressed the significance of the training for both new and experienced officers, highlighting the need for continuous professional development to align with NASENI’s vision and mandate.
The Executive Vice Chairman urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to their daily work and strive for improved service delivery. He encouraged them to take the training seriously and benefit from the expertise of the resource persons.
In his keynote address, the Acting Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Barr. Olusegun Omotola, represented by the Director of Training, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, highlighted NASENI’s crucial role in national infrastructure development. He emphasized the importance of building skills and competencies in public procurement to ensure transparency, efficiency, and value for money.
Omotola reminded NASENI of the mandatory compliance with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Circulars on procurement plans and procurement records.
He stressed that no procurement process could commence without a properly approved procurement plan submitted through the NOCOPO system and the presence of a fully-fledged procurement department manned by BPP-trained/certified officers.
The Acting Director-General urged NASENI to approach public procurement with the highest sense of accountability, ethics, and integrity. He expressed hope that the training would address any factors hindering effective performance in procurement-related activities and budget implementation.
