In a major breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended 28-year-old Benjamin Ezeukwe, the mastermind behind an elaborate scam that duped countless Nigerians out of their hard-earned money through falsified ‘Dangote cement-price-slash advertisements’.
Following weeks of rigorous investigation by officers from the Area A Command of the State Command, Benjamin was captured on October 19, 2023, in the Rumuolumeni area of the Obio/Akpor local government area in Rivers State.
As part of the arrest, authorities seized crucial evidence including a Tecno phone, an iPhone, three SIM cards, and a Toyota Avalon that has now been linked to the proceeds of his fraudulent activities.
The suspect, who operated under the guise of Dangote Cement, had ingeniously crafted a deceptive online advert in September 2023, offering an incredible discount on cement prices. Regrettably, numerous unsuspecting victims fell victim to this elaborate ruse, losing millions of Naira to the scam.
Further investigation has unearthed a startling revelation – the accused had successfully executed several other similar scams in the past. As part of the ongoing legal process, the suspect has already been arraigned, ensuring that justice will be served.
This successful arrest is a testament to the tireless efforts of the Lagos State Police Command in safeguarding the public from cunning and financially devastating scams. The command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating cyber fraud provides a glimmer of hope for the victims and serves as a deterrent to potential offenders.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant while engaging in online transactions, particularly when significant discounts or extraordinary offers are involved. By adopting a vigilant and skeptical outlook, individuals can protect themselves from falling prey to such deceitful schemes.
