Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has officially launched the construction of a 20-kilometer rural road connecting parts of Lokoja and Adavi local government areas.
The project, funded by the World Bank Group through the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), is the first phase of a larger initiative to construct over 65 kilometers of rural roads in the state.
Governor Ododo emphasized the significance of rural roads in his administration’s development agenda. He highlighted that these roads will not only improve transportation but also serve as catalysts for rural economic growth and food security. By providing access to farms, farming communities, and markets, the roads will enhance connectivity and opportunities for rural dwellers.
The governor urged benefiting communities to take ownership of the project and warned contractors against diverting project funds. He emphasized the importance of integrity and professionalism in project delivery.
The State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed, noted that the project will benefit farmers by reducing transportation costs and improving accessibility.
The National Coordinator of RAAMP, Engineer Aminu Bodinga, represented by Mrs. Joy Amadi, commended Governor Ododo for his unwavering commitment to rural development. She emphasized that the project would enhance connectivity and access to markets, social services, and opportunities previously out of reach for rural dwellers.
The State Coordinator of the project, Sheidu Obansa, expressed confidence that the network of rural roads would expose communities to opportunities and promote agricultural development in the state.
Traditional rulers, including the Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi, praised Governor Ododo for the initiative and its potential to enhance agricultural development and reduce traffic congestion.
The construction of the 20-kilometer rural road marks a significant step towards improving the lives of rural residents in Kogi State and promoting sustainable development in the region.
