Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called on candidates and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work tirelessly for the party’s success in the upcoming Local Government Council elections scheduled for October 19, 2024.
Governor Ododo made this appeal during the APC’s statewide campaign flag-off held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja on Thursday. The event was attended by party leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state.
During the event, the governor showcased the achievements of the APC-led administration in Kogi State, emphasizing the successful implementation of a 40% affirmative action policy for women in elective positions. He highlighted the party’s decision to reserve all vice-chairmanship positions, and at least four councillorship slots in each of the 21 local government areas, exclusively for women.
Governor Ododo also pointed out that the appointment of Ward Special Assistants and Local Government Special Assistants has brought governance closer to the grassroots, empowering local communities.
The governor urged the people of Kogi State to maintain peace and unity, and to support the APC-led administration, assuring them that the state’s resources would continue to be used to reduce poverty and build on the achievements of the government across all sectors.
“Our state is blessed with abundant mineral resources and human capital. We must work hard to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor and the previous administration. On October 19, 2024, I urge you to come out in large numbers and vote for all APC chairmanship candidates in the 21 local government areas and for our councillorship candidates in the 239 electoral wards. Together, we will continue to build on the progress we’ve made under the APC,” Governor Ododo said.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in addressing the nation’s economic challenges, reassuring the crowd that Kogi State would continue to align with national policies aimed at easing the hardships faced by Nigerians.
Earlier, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, the APC State Chairman, lauded Governor Ododo for his outstanding performance, which he said has made the campaign for the local government election easier for the party. He encouraged APC members to embark on a door-to-door campaign to secure a landslide victory in the forthcoming election.
The campaign event, which drew a large crowd of APC supporters from across the state, also featured the defection of Honourable Salman Idris, the member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, from the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of APC flags to the 21 local government chairmanship candidates by Governor Ododo, symbolizing the party’s readiness for the October 19 polls.
