The government plans to build new hostels for students in Nigeria to help solve the problem of inadequate accommodation for them to live.
The project will cost N98.2 billion and involve constructing 24 hostels, each with 1,600 beds, with help from states and private companies.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, announced the project.
He explained that the federal government, states, and private companies will work together to build these hostels in 24 schools. This will provide more places for students to live and help them do better in their studies.
Edun also pointed out that this project is important for young people in Nigeria and the country’s development. “By investing in student housing, the government is investing in the future” he said.
He highlighted how this project shows the strength of Nigeria’s financial markets and the ability of different sectors to work together.
This partnership between the government, states, and private companies is a key part of the plan. Edun praised the private sector for teaming up with the government to build essential infrastructure in all parts of the country. This public-private partnership model is seen as a good way to improve facilities in universities across Nigeria and bring different parts of the economy together.
