The Federal Government has vowed to achieve food security for Nigeria, while also advocating for a more adaptable and robust approach to agricultural planning.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, addressed the inaugural meeting of the Agricultural Sector Working Group (ASWG) in Abuja, where he stressed the importance of aligning Nigeria’s agricultural roadmap with the post-Malabo agenda, a framework for agricultural transformation in Africa.
Mr. Edun pointed to the necessity of boosting productivity within the agricultural sector, expanding access to crucial financial resources for stakeholders, and unlocking the potential for value-added agricultural exports.
He assured stakeholders of the Ministry’s support for their endeavors, characterizing agriculture as a central element of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic priorities for the nation.
The ASWG is tasked with the crucial role of driving coordination across various sectors to ensure tangible and measurable progress towards achieving both national food security and the broader continental food security goals outlined in the post-Malabo agenda.
This initiative represents a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable food security for Nigeria, with anticipated positive impacts on economic growth within the agricultural sector and improvements in the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians involved in agriculture and related industries.
The Ministry of Finance’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector suggests the potential for substantial long-term benefits for the nation’s food security and economic stability.
