Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that it has started registering distributors for the lifting and distribution of refined petroleum products in Nigeria.
The company has already registered members of three major associations: Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), which collectively account for 75% of the Nigerian market.
Other marketers who have expressed interest in distributing Dangote’s petroleum products are also being considered.
According to Olufemi Adewole, the Executive Secretary of DAPPMAN, discussions with Dangote Petroleum Refinery began last year, with the aim of collaborating with DAPPMAN members to distribute products nationwide. Adewole believes that the refinery’s operations will contribute to Nigeria’s economic development and provide DAPPMAN members with easier access to refined petroleum products.
Alhaji Hammed Adekunle Fasola, the National Vice President of IPMAN, also expressed confidence in the partnership, stating that IPMAN’s retail outlets own 80% of the market and are well-equipped to distribute products from Dangote Refinery across the country.
Clement Isong, the Executive Secretary/CEO of MOMAN, confirmed that MOMAN members have registered with Dangote Petroleum Refinery to become marketers of its products. He added that commercial terms will be discussed and agreed upon with each marketer, and that products can be picked up either using trucks or vessels.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery, designed to process 100% Nigerian crude oil with the flexibility to accommodate other crudes, aims to load 2,900 trucks per day at its truck-loading gantries. The refinery will produce products that conform to Euro V specifications and adhere to international emission norms. It will have the capacity to meet 100% of Nigeria’s demand for refined products, with surplus for export.
In response to reports claiming to be appointed distributors of Dangote Petroleum products, Dangote Industries Limited management stated that while the registration of distributors has begun, the appointment process is still ongoing. It emphasized that any news regarding the Dangote Refinery should not be considered factual unless officially communicated by the company.
