Dangote Refinery Denies Suing NNPCL Over Fuel Licenses
By Patience Ikpeme
Dangote Refinery has refuted recent reports alleging that it has taken the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other fuel marketers to court in a bid to terminate their fuel import licenses.
In a statement released on Monday, Dangote Industries clarified that the issue, which dates back to June, resulted in a legal filing on September 6, 2024.
However, the company emphasized that discussions between the involved parties are now ongoing following President Bola Tinubu’s directive concerning the “Crude Oil and Refined Products Sales in Naira” initiative.
This initiative, approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), aims to facilitate local transactions in the oil sector using the national currency.
“We have made tremendous progress in that regard, and events have overtaken this development,” the statement noted. Dangote Industries further explained that no party has been served with court processes, and there is no plan to do so. In light of the ongoing dialogue, all parties have agreed to halt the legal proceedings.
The statement also confirmed that no court orders have been issued, and the situation poses no adverse effects on any party involved.
According to Dangote Industries, once the matter comes before the court in January 2025, the company intends to formally withdraw the case.
This development follows ongoing efforts to align with the government’s economic policies and promote domestic oil sector reforms.
