Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially commenced production of diesel and aviation fuel, marking a historic milestone for Nigeria’s industrial and economic development.
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and instrumental role in overcoming project hurdles. He also extended his thanks to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), regulatory bodies like the NUPRC and NMDPRA, and most importantly, the Nigerian people for their belief and backing throughout the long journey.
“This is a big day for Nigeria,” declared Dangote. “We are not just producing fuel, we are building a brighter future for our nation. This project demonstrates our capacity for complex, large-scale development and sets us on a course of self-sufficiency.”
The refinery has already received six million barrels of crude oil, delivered steadily since December 2023. Its state-of-the-art facilities boast a daily trucking capacity of 2,900 and ensure fuel production adherence to stringent Euro V emission standards. This not only guarantees cleaner fuel but also opens the door to international markets.
Beyond the economic benefits, Dangote expressed heartfelt appreciation to those who made the dream a reality: “Our bankers, both local and international, deserve immense credit for their unwavering faith in us. The Lagos State government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, facilitated solutions every step of the way. Our host communities and their leaders patiently accommodated the project’s growth, and our dedicated staff poured their hearts and expertise into this endeavor.”
The commencement of production signifies a new era for Nigeria. With reliable domestic fuel production, the nation can expect reduced dependence on imports, a potential for lower fuel prices, and a boost to its manufacturing and transportation sectors.
While challenges undoubtedly lie ahead, Dangote’s refinery stands as a beacon of hope and progress. It represents Nigeria’s unwavering spirit and its drive to build a vibrant and independent future, fueled by its own resources and ingenuity.
