Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has emphasized its commitment to consumer rights at the 2024 World Consumer Rights Day celebration.

Hajia Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial Operations for DIL, also lauded the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) for hosting the event.

Fatima Aliko Dangote stressed the importance of clear and accessible information for consumers, especially in today’s world of artificial intelligence (AI) where misinformation can be widespread. Consumers, she argued, deserve accurate and understandable details about products and services.

Dangote called for businesses to prioritize ethical practices that benefit both consumers and the environment. She emphasized the need for educational initiatives that empower consumers with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complexities of the modern marketplace. Additionally, she advocated for robust regulatory frameworks to protect consumer rights across borders and encouraged collective action from stakeholders to address emerging challenges in the consumer protection sector.

Fatima Aliko Dangote reaffirmed Dangote Industries’ commitment to consumer rights throughout its operations. The company adheres to strict safety standards to ensure its products are safe for use and consumption. From cement to sugar and other products, Dangote prioritizes consumer safety and well-being.

Dangote highlighted the fundamental consumer rights to include: Products should be safe for consumers; Consumers have the right to clear and accurate information about products; Consumers should have the freedom to choose products based on complete information; Consumers have the right to seek remedies for faulty or unsafe products; and Businesses should operate in ways that protect the environment.

Dangote acknowledged the critical role consumers play in the market as the ultimate users of products and services. She emphasized their power to demand quality, safety, sustainability, and ethical practices.

Recognizing that even with high safety standards, issues can arise, Dangote highlighted the importance of accessible grievance mechanisms. She cited the Dangote Group Customer Care Centre as an example, where consumers can voice their concerns and seek solutions.
