Dangote Group Denies N600/Litre Petrol Price Speculation
By Patience Ikpeme
The Dangote Group has refuted claims suggesting that the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, could reach N600 per litre, as projected by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN).
In a statement released by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, the company made it clear that IPMAN is not a business partner of Dangote Group and has no authority to speak on its behalf.
Chiejina emphasized that the Dangote Group has never engaged in any discussions with IPMAN regarding the pricing of PMS. “We have never discussed the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) with them, and they have no mandate or authority to speak for us, either for good or with hidden transcript,” he stated.
The statement was issued in response to recent reports suggesting that marketers were projecting a price hike to N600 per litre for Dangote petrol. The Dangote Group categorically dismissed these projections as speculative and urged the public to disregard such reports.
Chiejina also noted the importance of relying on official communications from the Dangote Group. “We urge the public to desist from such speculative announcements. We have our official channels through which we make our views known to our stakeholders,” he added.
The Dangote Group’s clarification comes at a time when the pricing and availability of PMS are of significant concern to Nigerians, following recent changes in fuel subsidy policies. The company’s statement serves to reassure the public and stakeholders that any official communication regarding PMS pricing will be disseminated through appropriate and verified channels.
