Dangote Cuts Petrol Price to N875 Per Litre
By Patience Ikpeme
Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced another significant reduction of N15 in the price of its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
This latest adjustment is set to provide further relief to Nigerian consumers, with new prices varying by region across the country.
Effective immediately, Nigerians will now be able to purchase petrol at N875 per litre in Lagos; N885 per litre in the South West; N895 per litre in the North West and North Central; and N905 per litre in the South East, South South, and North East. These prices will be available through all of Dangote Refinery’s partners, which include major marketers such as MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde.
The refinery has extended an invitation to other marketers to join its expanding network of partners, encouraging them to demonstrate their support for President Bola Tinubu’s “Nigeria First” policy, which champions the prioritization of locally produced goods and services.
This latest price reduction is part of a consistent strategy by Dangote Petroleum Refinery to implement cost-reduction measures since it commenced operations. In February 2025, the company made two separate price reductions on petrol, totaling a decrease of N125 per litre.
This was followed by another reduction of approximately N45 per litre in April. Beyond petrol, the prices of other key products like diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have also seen considerable reductions, leading to improved affordability across various sectors including transportation, industrial operations, and domestic energy consumption.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery recently gave assurances to Nigerians regarding price stability despite fluctuations in global crude oil prices, expressing its commitment to supporting the national economy. The refinery stated, “By refining petroleum products domestically at the world’s largest single-train refinery, we are proud to make a substantial contribution to Nigeria’s energy security, foreign exchange savings, and overall economic resilience—aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on addressing the nation’s economic challenges and improving the well-being of Nigerians.”
The company extended its gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for enabling these price reductions through the “commendable Naira-for-Crude Initiative,” which has allowed the refinery to consistently lower the cost of petroleum products for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery also assures the public of a consistent supply of petroleum products, stating that it has sufficient reserves to meet domestic demand. Furthermore, it expects to have a surplus for export, which will contribute to enhancing the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
In related news, Aliko Dangote, the founder of Dangote Refinery, was recently named on Tuesday in the inaugural 2025 TIME100 Philanthropy list.
