Dangote Coal Mines, Benue Communities Forge Landmark Development Agreement

Dangote Coal Mines Limited and its host communities in Benue State have solidified a partnership by signing a landmark Community Development Agreement (CDA), marking a major step towards sustainable development and mutual benefit.
Government officials have hailed the agreement as a crucial “milestone,” emphasizing its potential to transform the region.
The CDA, as outlined by representatives from Dangote Coal and the host communities, will facilitate the company’s implementation of various social programs aimed at complementing the government’s development efforts. This collaborative approach underscores a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in the affected areas.
Nuhu Elujah, representative of Dangote Coal Mines Limited, described the agreement as a “breakthrough in our effort to touch lives.” He elaborated, “Today we have a document to guide us with regards the Abache Community,” signifying the formalization of a structured partnership that will ensure targeted and effective social investments.
The company has pledged to undertake projects in critical areas such as education, road infrastructure, health facilities, and water infrastructure, addressing some of the most pressing needs of the host communities. “It is a new era for peace and development. It is also a major milestone,” remarked Ms. Bimbo Adams, representing the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, underscoring the agreement’s significance at the federal level. Mrs. Adijetu Usman, representing the federal ministry at the state level, also attended the ceremony, further highlighting the government’s support for the initiative.
Chief Emmanuel Ikom, the Ward Head of Ugbokolo, lauded Dangote Coal Mines Limited for its consistent implementation of various projects across the three host communities in Okpokwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
He urged the company to maintain its commitment to these developmental initiatives, emphasizing the positive impact they have on the local populace.
Mr. Sunday Onoko Aluh, a representative of the Abache community, expressed his gratitude for the company’s efforts in bringing the CDA to fruition. He pledged that his community would foster a peaceful and cooperative relationship with the company’s management to expedite the area’s rapid development.
Traditional leaders from the region also voiced their support for the agreement, commending Dangote Coal for its numerous interventions and social programs. They described the CDA as a “win-win” scenario for all parties involved, highlighting the mutual benefits derived from the partnership. This sentiment reflected the prevailing optimism and enthusiasm surrounding the agreement.
