Dangote Cement Unveils Multi-Million-Naira Social Interventions in Gboko Communities

Dangote Cement Plc, Gboko Plant, has introduced an extensive social investment initiative designed to foster sustainable economic growth and self-reliance within its host communities.
The comprehensive programme, which covers several key sectors of local development, represents the company’s ongoing commitment to its neighbors under a structured development framework.
Speaking at a ceremony held in Gboko on Monday, the Head of Social Performance for the Gboko Plant, Dr. Johnson Kor, explained that these social programmes were developed and executed in strict accordance with the mutually agreed Community Development Agreement (CDA). He noted that the roadmap for these interventions was established through a formal pact signed between the Dangote Group and six mining communities, including the primary host community of Mbayion.
“In Dec. 2024, Dangote Group had a Community Development Agreement CDA with the Six Mining Communities including the Mbayion Community who is the Host Community. Several Projects were earmarked to cover the period of five years,” Dr. Kor stated.
The company has already completed a variety of projects, while several others remain in different stages of progress. These include specific initiatives such as the Women Empowerment Programme, the Farmers Empowerment Programme, and the Youth Empowerment Programme. Each of these schemes is tailored to address the specific economic needs of the residents and improve their general quality of life.
A significant part of Monday’s event was the presentation of certificates and starter packs to 30 graduates of the Youth Skill Development Programme. This provision of equipment is intended to ensure that the beneficiaries can put their newly acquired technical skills to immediate use, facilitating their transition into self-employment and financial independence.
In addition to human capital development, the company addressed critical infrastructure needs by commissioning motorized boreholes in several areas. The beneficiary communities for these water projects include Mbaswa, Agboghol, Mbatyu, and Pass Brothers, providing residents with improved access to clean and potable water.
Representing the Plant Director of DCP Gboko, the General Manager of Finance, Olusegun Orebanjo, spoke on the deeper philosophy behind the company’s local investments. He noted that the firm views its relationship with the local population as a collaborative venture aimed at mutual growth.
“At Dangote Cement Plc, we do not see our host communities merely as neighbours, but as valued partners in progress,” he said. “Our presence in Gboko is built on a strong belief that business success must go hand in hand with community wellbeing, and this philosophy continues to guide our operations and social investments. Today’s event is a clear expression of that shared journey.”
The Plant Director further assured the public that the company remains dedicated to fulfilling all aspects of the CDA. He acknowledged that while some projects have faced delays due to technical complexities, the company is working to resolve those hurdles to ensure full delivery of its promises.
“We wish to assure all stakeholders that several CDA projects are currently ongoing and progressing steadily. While some projects are yet to commence due to technical complexities, we are actively addressing these challenges. We assure you that all outstanding projects will be executed in the coming year, alongside new initiatives aimed at deepening our social impact,” the Director added.
