The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has deployed the Electronic Currency Declaration Form (e-CDF) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, as part of its ongoing digital transformation and modernisation drive.

According to a statement by NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada, the deployment, which began as a pilot on April 9, 2025, was implemented successfully and without incident.

The e-CDF system enables digital capture of both inbound and outbound currency declarations, providing a more secure, efficient, and accountable process for cross-border travellers.

During the pilot phase, the system recorded a total of 69 currency declaration transactions. Of these, 51 were outbound, with a total declared value of $1.2 million, while 18 inbound declarations amounted to $177,786.88.

Customs noted that the e-CDF platform was developed to align with international standards on anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT). It offers real-time data to support intelligence gathering and improve collaboration with other agencies.

“The NCS, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, is committed to leveraging technology to improve compliance, facilitate legitimate travel and trade, and safeguard the country’s borders,” the statement read.

Following the successful implementation of the pilot phase, the Service plans to extend the deployment of the e-CDF system to other international airports and border posts nationwide.
