The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that it has successfully retrieved N115 billion and $22 million for customers who experienced illegal deductions and failed transactions from their banks.

This recovery was a result of various complaints brought to the attention of the CBN from 2012 to 2023.

Speaking during the 2023 CBN fair with the theme ‘promoting alternative payment channels as tools for financial inclusion’, in Ekiti State, Dr Isa Abdulmumin, the Director of Corporate Communications, reiterated the commitment of the central bank to address customer complaints and protect their interests.

According to the data provided by the CBN, a total of 35,453 complaints were received, out of which 33,437 were successfully resolved.

Dr Isa emphasized the significance of the national currency, the naira, and urged the public to treat it with respect and maintain its cleanliness. He further assured that the CBN will continue to fulfill its mandate of ensuring monetary and price stability, as well as implementing proactive and innovative policies to support all economic sectors.

The objective of the fair was to raise awareness about the bank’s initiatives and their positive impact on business growth and Nigeria’s economy. The CBN also emphasized its efforts in driving financial inclusion and ensuring consumer protection for financial products.
