The Central Bank of Nigeria has cleared all verified airline claims amounting to $136.73 million, this is in fulfillment of their pledge to clear all foreign exchange backlogs.

In a recent press statement, CBN stated that $64.44 million has been paid as the concluding sum of all verified claims by airlines.

This figure was confirmed in a press statement signed by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, this payment concludes the backlog payment on all the verified airline claims, bringing the total figure to $136.73.

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, she stated that “his team were doubly committed and would stop at nothing to ensure that the verified backlog of payments across all other sectors was cleared and confidence was restored to Nigerian foreign exchange market.

Hakama Sidi Ali further warned market operators to guard against speculations and gave the assurance that the CBN is working with stakeholders on improving liquidity within the forex market.

She further stated that she’s optimistic that the market would respond positively with the latest injection of over $64 million into the market.
