The Catholic Bishops of the Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, have called on the various governments to prioritize the security and well-being of Nigerian citizens.

The clergy also emphasized the importance of accountability and urged the people to continue praying for the country.

The communique they issued highlighted several pressing concerns, including poverty, insecurity, kidnapping, and the declining economic situation.

Expressing deep concern about the deteriorating state of the nation, the bishops called for increased efforts from the government to alleviate the suffering of the people. They sympathized with the victims of various acts of violence and insecurity across regions in Nigeria, urging political leaders and security agencies to redouble their efforts in putting an end to the threats to life.

The communique also acknowledged and appreciated God’s blessings on the Church in Nigeria. The bishops recognized the recent appointments and installations of bishops in various dioceses, expressing hope for the growth and development of the Church in the region.

The bishops also celebrated the unveiling of the Marriage Preparation Curriculum, which will guide couples in preparation for marriage within the Province. They directed that the curriculum be strictly followed during marriage preparation programs in all parishes.

Addressing the issue of same-sex unions, the bishops resolutely affirmed the position of the Catholic Church and urged the faithful to adhere to its teachings on marriage as the union of a man and a woman. They asserted that the Church’s teaching on human sexuality should guide believers.
