AGF Pledges Support to ICAN with Integrity and Transparency

The Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, has assured of her commitment to supporting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) by upholding integrity, transparency, and a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.
During a courtesy visit by the 60th President of ICAN, Dr. Davidson C.S. Alaribe, and his team, Dr. Madein emphasized the crucial role of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) in promoting professional accounting principles. With approximately 70% of its workforce comprising accountants, the OAGF plays a pivotal role in upholding the integrity of the accounting profession.
“We will continue to partner with ICAN to promote robust and transparent accounting practices,” Dr. Madein stated. “The mandates of ICAN and OAGF are aligned in status, and I am committed to maintaining integrity, ethics, and core values within the accounting profession while welcoming constructive criticism and recognition to enhance accounting practices.”
Dr. Madein assured ICAN of her office’s unwavering support in advancing the profession, emphasizing the shared vision of transparency and ethical financial management.
In his remarks, Dr. Davidson Alaribe commended the AGF for her “motherly role” and unwavering support, particularly during the last ICAN Conference. He lauded the reactivation of the Federal Treasury Academy in Orozo, Abuja, as a significant step in strengthening the accounting profession in Nigeria.
Dr. Alaribe further highlighted ICAN’s dedication to fostering professional development, revealing that the Institute offers scholarships worth N500,000 to accountants pursuing higher qualifications up to the Ph.D. level.
The visit underscored the strong partnership between ICAN and the OAGF in promoting excellence, transparency, and integrity in the accounting profession. Both parties expressed a shared determination to uphold the profession’s ethical standards and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
